It finally starts to unravel after the clueless girl gets really excited at the prospect of a more romantic wedding, while denial girl really doesn’t want other people to “get the wrong idea” about them actually being gay. Eventually, clueless girl finally realizes that she loves denial girl, while denial girl finally accepts that she is allowed to feel this way.

Denial girl would probably be the main pov character, as her internal mental gymnastics would be more extreme and interesting, while the suspense of her not knowing if clueless girl will ever demand something different will torment her the entire time. Her breaking down all the barriers between acceptance would be sweet, with her eventually reaching the point where she acknowledges that it’d be near impossible for her to say no if clueless ever decided to make it official.

While denial might face external bigotry from her family, clueless might just be too inexperienced with close friendships to fully realize what’s going on. She’ll be the one to initiate a lot of the intimacy, simply seeing them as nice things to do for her best friend. Denial will have serious self esteem issues, never thinking she’s worthy of clueless and trying really hard the entire time to not overstep and ask for something that might push clueless away. Clueless will pull denial closer to her and be the one initiating almost everything, until denial breaks the pattern asks to get married.
